The Biggest Festival in Mongolia - Naadam Festival
Naadam is the biggest festival of Mongolia, held annually in July.The vast Mongolian steppe lands mystery is always attracted the attention of numerous tourists from near and far, especially in the summer months. On the last 11/7, Naadam, traditional festival of the Mongolian largest was held, which lasted 3 days and end on 14/7.
In three days, Mongolians and tourists from all over flock to the desert will see dance performances, traditional songs as well as participate in races, traditional games interesting.
In Mongolian Naadam means "game", was held from the time of Genghis Khan. According to ancient documents, the origin of the festival comes from the parade, the game hunting of old soldiers.
Naadam is held in almost all over the prairies, but the biggest festival is still in the capital Ulanbaatar. Mongolians are eagerly waiting for this festival and dressed in colorful traditional dress to attend to.
In order to attend the festival, people drive a car or ride horse to the venue. Typically, there are three main games in the festivals, wrestling, horseback riding and archery. In 2010, Naadam has been recognized by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage of the world.
Like any other festival, Naadam begins with the ritual. The dancers and musicians play music while the groom and athletes controls the horse around the main stadium in the capital. After this ceremony, the festival officially began.
The main games in the Naadam festival is mainly to demonstrate the strength and masculinity of men. Some other games women can participate, except wrestling.
More than 1,000 gladiators will step up to square and waving, imitating an eagle's wingspan and traditional dance before the match.
